Serious about renewables

It may be an inconvenient truth for some but the Turnbull Government has overseen record levels of investment in renewables (“Is Australia doing enough to help the environment?”, Conversations, Progress Leader, 18 July).

In 2016 there was a five-fold increase in renewables over the previous year with nearly $8 billion of renewables investments either under construction or planned.

The Renewable Energy Target together with our National Energy Productivity Plan which is reducing emissions in the use of appliances and across the built environment, our Emissions Reduction Fund which focuses on the land sector and the phasing out of hydro-fluoro carbons under recently passed legislation, are all contributing to the Government’s emissions reduction targets.

Just as Australia beat its first Kyoto target and is on track to beat its 2020 target by 224 million tonnes, we are confident that we will also meet our 2030 target of 26-28% emissions reduction on 2005 levels.

The Turnbull Government is not just taking the job of emissions reduction seriously but is delivering real action at the lowest cost to consumers.
