Calling on the people of Kooyong to join one of the many tree-planting activities planned in the region on National Tree Day – this Sunday, 29 July.

Our trees are one of Australia’s natural treasures, with many of our majestic trees and beautiful plants found nowhere else in the world.

National Tree Day gives us all a great reason to get out and reconnect with nature and our community.

Trees are an important part of our community. Trees give us fresh and clean air, provide food and shelter for our unique wildlife, help reduce our carbon emissions, and make our towns and cities more liveable.

This annual event reminds us that we share the responsibility for our environment.

By working together, we discover what we’re capable of achieving as community and the positive impact we can make on our local environment and the future of our native plants and animals.

For its part, the Turnbull Government is working with the community on a long-term tree-planting effort under its 20 Million Trees Program.

I’m pleased to say that we’re on track to reach our target to plant 20 million trees by 2020 and achieve our broader goal of re-establishing green corridors and urban forests across Australia.
