Owners and managers of Australia’s places with outstanding historic heritage significance to the nation can now apply for funding to help protect, conserve and raise awareness of the national treasures in their care.

Applications are open until 8 March 2018 for a share of over $4 million available this year under the Protecting National Historic Sites program.

“Australia is known the world over for its natural wonders, but the stories told by our historic sites are just as compelling,” Minister Frydenberg said.

“We have more than 60 such historic sites of outstanding national significance, from Victoria’s Echuca Wharves and Queensland’s Qantas Hanger to the Adelaide Park Lands and the Sydney Opera House.”

Those involved with the historic sites on our National Heritage List are encouraged to take advantage of the 2017-18 grants round now underway. Funding of $25,000 to $250,000 is available per successful project.

“The people, movements and moments that changed Australia are captured at these historic sites,” Minister Frydenberg said.

“They are places where we can reflect on the past and celebrate what we are today.”

The Turnbull Government proudly provides ongoing support for our historic National Heritage Places.
