The Coalition Government, through the Australian Renewable Energy Agency (ARENA), is providing $11.9 million in funding to Ethanol Technologies Limited (‘Ethtec’) to assist with the completion of their biofuel technology demonstration facility.

Australian company Ethtec has developed an innovative and cost-effective approach to the production of bioethanol from a range of feedstocks typically identified as waste or low-value products including those produced by the sugarcane, cotton and forestry industries.

The purpose-built $30 million facility will be located in the Hunter Valley, New South Wales, and is expected to produce 270,000 litres of biofuel per annum.

The facility will also allow for additional improvements to the Ethtec technology and facilitate its broader rollout.

“The addition of this innovative biofuels facility will add to Australia’s already diverse energy sources and assist us to provide a more affordable and reliable energy system” said Josh Frydenberg, Minister for the Environment and Energy.

Liberal Senator for New South Wales, Arthur Sinodinos, welcomed ARENA’s contribution to advancing innovative solutions for biofuels in the Hunter.

“Through this funding, the Turnbull Government is demonstrating its commitment to providing more affordable energy through innovative solutions, and supporting the local economy with more jobs for the Hunter and Newcastle,” said Senator Sinodinos.
