On September 7, Josh Frydenberg held a special breakfast at Camberwell RSL to thank the many volunteers from Kooyong who have worked overseas in the fight against poverty and the promotion of sustainable development.

Over 57 volunteers will be recognised at the ceremony for their work with a range of organisations including Interplast, Habitat for Humanity Australia and the Salvation Army among many others. Each volunteer was presented with an official Certificate of Appreciation.

“Over the last five decades it is estimated that more than 12,000 volunteers have represented Australia abroad as volunteers or youth ambassadors. Working in Asia, the Pacific, Africa and the Middle East as doctors, nurses, teachers, engineers, computer programmers and agriculturalists, among many other roles, these volunteers have made a real difference to people’s lives.”

“Their invaluable work enriches those they touch and no doubt their experience abroad makes their lives all the richer too.”

“Australia is a tolerant, generous and outward looking country and in that tradition I am proud to support and acknowledge the wonderful work of our volunteers.  Our community and the communities of our neighbours and friends are better off for their contribution, and for that we are all grateful,” Mr Frydenberg said.
