Kooyong Colts team up for 2017 Relay for Life fundraiser
Thursday, 23 February 2017
On the weekend of 25th – 26th March 2017, our team the Kooyong Colts will again be supporting the Cancer Council of Victoria and participating in this year’s Hawthorn Relay for Life.
The relay started as a fundraising initiative in Australia in 1999. Relays are now held in every Australian State and Territory, with more than 134,000 participants raising over $24 million each year. It is the largest cancer fundraising event in the world and is now held in more than 20 countries.
The Hawthorn relay involves teams walking and running around the oval at John Gardiner Reserve in Auburn Road, Hawthorn East, for 18 consecutive hours to raise funds for the Cancer Council’s vital research, prevention and support programs. The relay features ongoing live entertainment, activities, and a moving candlelight ceremony, and a cancer survivors and carers walk.
I am delighted that the local community has rallied behind and supported the Kooyong Colts relay team since 2012. With this generous support, the Kooyong Colts team has raised over $82,000 across five relays with last year’s fundraising effort just shy of $20,000. The team has also been named the highest fundraising team four years in a row.
The Relay will take place in Kooyong at John Gardiner Reserve, Auburn Road, Hawthorn East, from 4:00 pm on Saturday 25th March to 10:00 am on Sunday 26th March 2017.
