Today on behalf of the people of Kooyong, Josh Frydenberg, the Federal Member for Kooyong, delivered to the Federal Parliament’s Petitions Officer, a Petition calling for the re-establishment of a standalone post office in Balwyn.
The Petition has over 5,000 signatures reflecting the high degree of community concern at the recent closure of the post office in Whitehorse Road, Balwyn.
The Petitions Committee of Parliament will now consider the Petition before Mr Frydenberg will formally present the Petition to the House of Representatives during this sitting fortnight.
Mr Frydenberg said “I am pleased so many members of our local community have taken the time to sign the Petition. The closure of the Balwyn Post Office has caused enormous inconvenience to many in the community and economic loss to those small businesses in the area. The range of postal services provided by the post office are critical to residents and traders alike.”
“I am very grateful for the support this campaign has received from the Balwyn Traders’ Association, the Mayor of Boroondara Councillor Nicholas Tragas, Boroondara Councillor Dick Menting and the Member for Box Hill, the Hon Robert Clark MLA. Working together we will continue to exert as much pressure as possible on Australia Post to reopen a new site in Balwyn. No stone will be left unturned,” Mr Frydenberg said.
