PADSIP at Auburn High School

On 17 June, I was delighted to launch PADSIP – Auburn High School’s Positive Ageing Digital Storytelling Intergenerational Project. Led by social worker Mark Silver, PADSIP is an important community engagement project pairing students with older community members. Each student and community member interact over 13 weeks, learn from one another, and produce a short video on their interactions based on the theme ‘aspirations and meeting life’s challenges’.

Lighter Footprints environment forum

The Turnbull Government has in place a series of strong and effective environmental policies designed to reduce carbon emissions and increase the take up of renewable energy. This includes a $1 billion clean energy innovation fund and another $1 billion fund to preserve the health of the Great Barrier Reef. On 16 June, I debated Labor’s Environment spokesperson, Mark Butler, and Greens Senator Janet Rice, at an environment policy election forum. The forum was hosted by local environment group, Lighter Footprints, and was attended by more than 500 community members. After the panel discussion, which was hosted by Rod Quantock, I joined other candidates for election in Kooyong Marg D'Arcy and Helen McLeod to take questions on environmental issues.

Visit to Kew Greek Senior Citizens Club

It was great to catch up with President Con Kolevos and members of the Kew Greek Senior Citizens Club on 16 June and to address club members about some of the great initiatives that we are introducing locally including committing $100,000 to solar panels.  Some of this money will be allocated to install panels at the Kew Senior Citizens Centre where the club meets. It was great to visit the group and a good opportunity for me to brush up on my Greek which I used in my introduction.

Visit to Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre

It was great to visit Shima and her team at the Surrey Hills Neighbourhood Centre on 16 June and to meet young local families and their children enjoying the Centre's new play equipment. The purchase of the toys as well as new chairs for the Centre was made possible by funding from the Government's Stronger Communities Program. In Kooyong many local community organisations received SCP grants which were matched dollar for dollar. $150,000 has been allocated for both Rounds 1 and 2.

$500,000 new Kooyong local environment plan

I’m committed to preserving the environment and our local gardens and parkland. On 15 June, Environment Minister Greg Hunt and I announced our strong local environment plan – $400,000 in new Kooyong Green Army projects to restore our local parks and rivers, and $100,000 for solar panels for community groups. The Turnbull Government is halving Australia’s emissions, investing in renewable energy and delivering for our local communities.  You can read more about our plan for the environment here

Opening the Woodside Energy Innovation Centre at Monash University

On 15 June, I participated in the official opening of the Woodside Energy Innovation Centre at Monash University. Woodside’s generous donation of $10 million will help Monash University work closely with industry, boosting Australia’s competitiveness and delivering the jobs of the future. For example, the Centre recently used 3D printing to produce a critical component for one of Woodside’s gas facilities off the Western Australian coast.  Julia Banks, the Liberal candidate for Chisholm, and I toured the Centre, speaking to the researchers and seeing the advanced equipment first hand.

Representing the Prime Minister at the Financial Review's National Infrastructure Summit

On 15 June, I had the privilege to represent the Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull, at the Australian Financial Review's 2016 National Infrastructure Summit in Sydney. As part of my speech, I highlighted the Turnbull Government's commitment to developing key economic infrastructure, through initiatives like the $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility, and also our commitment to pursuing innovative methods to develop infrastructure, such as our City Deals initiative.

I'm pictured here delivering my address.

Speaking with the Chair of the Government's $5 billion Northern Australia Infrastructure Facility Sharon Warburton and board member Khory McCormick about potential economic infrastructure for northern Australia.

Coalition funds MND research

It was a great privilege to walk beside proud Kooyong constituent and Queens Birthday Honours recipient, Neale Daniher today for the Freeze MND - Melbourne vs Collingwood game. $2.5m has been raised so far and the Coalition has promised that we will match the amount raised for today's 'Big Freeze 2' at the G to support motor neurone research efforts.

Out and about in Kooyong

It was great to catch up with some local small businesses on 11 June even though Melbourne put on one of its coldest days this year! I also called in to see Eddie at Grosvenor Dry Cleaners to pick up my dry cleaning and had a great chat to him about his business.I also called into Mint Gifts where it's always easy to find a great gift. It's always great to stop by Hahndorf's in Kew and chat with Suria and her team and see some of the great food and chocolates that they have on offer!

Balwyn Tigers Lunch

The Annual Queen's Birthday weekend lunch for the Balwyn Football Club saw the clubhouse packed out with Tiger's supports and sponsors, ahead of the game against Noble Park.  Josh is pictured with Tigers President Richard Wilson and Channel 9 personality Craig Hutchinson.
