Visit to Maranoa House in Canterbury

On 15 July, Josh visited Maranoa House in Faversham Road, Canterbury. Pictured here with the House Manager Faye Drummond, the House operates as a Dementia Day Care Centre which provides a wonderful venue for people who are otherwise still living in their own home. The various activities conducted at the House are directed at maintaining the skills of those who visit as well as providing what is often a much needed break for the carers.

Visit to Jack Nankervis House Balwyn

On 13 July, Josh visited Jack Nankervis House, a residence for homeless youth in Balwyn. Constructed with the financial support of the Rotary Club of North Balwyn and administered by Anglicare, the House provides a stable environment for those young people who otherwise may be at risk. Josh is pictured with two of the residents, and members of the Rotary Club including President Findley Cornell and Club Project Coordinator Greg Matthews.

Visiting the Tram Museum at Hawthorn Depot

On 10 July, Josh visited the Melbourne Tram Museum at Hawthorn Depot, located at the junction of Power Street, Riversdale Road and Wallen Road. The Museum, run by volunteers, houses a wonderful collection of trams from last century including the Cable Tram, the V Class, W Class and Z Class. Trams are an intrinsic part of Melbourne and the Museum is a must visit for all those interested in our City's history.

Speech to Kew on Yarra Rotary Club

On 30 June, Josh, pictured here with President Ann Brown addressed the Kew on Yarra Rotary Club. Kew on Yarra is an active organisation with its members volunteering their time for a range of community projects including Camberwell Sunday Market, Boroondara Cares and a Community Centre in Nepal. Kew on Yarra belongs to the ‘Yarra Cluster’ of Rotary Clubs which also includes Kew, Hawthorn and Glenferrie.

Attending St Columbs Church for the Survive Past Five Birthday Party Campaign

On 20 June, I joined with the community of St Columbs in Hawthorn to focus on the millions of children who die every year from extreme poverty and preventable diseases. The Micah Challenge encourages community groups around the country to bring attention to this issue and the importance of pursuing the UN’s Millennium Development Goals, particularly Goals 4 & 5 which related to reduce child mortality and improve maternal health.

Joining St Vincent de Paul’s Sleepout

Vinnies did a remarkable job organising this year’s Sleepout at Etihad Stadium on 17 June. With thousands of people in our community going homeless every night, many of them children, it is so important that we raise awareness of this issue and in the process raise money to ease the hardship. The Sleepout was a small step along this path.

Josh Becomes No 1 Ticket Holder at Kew Rovers Junior Football Club

At the Kew Rovers Junior Football Club Breakfast on June 4, it was a great privilege to be announced as their No 1 Ticket Holder by Club President Jeff Hooper. Kew Rovers was established in 1971 by Father Kevin Nicholson and since then has gone from strength to strength. Today it is a great family Club with hundreds of kids taking to the field each week. I am already looking forward to the next game day at Stradbroke Park.

Say No To Extended Clearways

The Member for Kew Andrew McIntosh together with Boroondara Councillor Phillip Healey and Mayor, Cr Jack Wegman have led the community charge against Labor’s extended clearways. It was great to join them and a number of small business owners from Kew for a recent rally against the extended clearways. These changes were implemented without consultation and are hurting small business and costing jobs.

Attending Scotch College’s Annual Dinner

Pictured on 9 June with Scotch College’s Principal Tom Batty and two of his students . The OSCA Annual Dinner at Leonda was a great occasion and an opportunity to celebrate Scotch’s significant contribution to the community since its foundation in 1851.Interestingly, three of the six members for Kooyong, William Knox, Sir John Latham and Andrew Peacock attended Scotch College.

Celebrating the Launch of the Salvation Army of Camberwell’s 300 Project

On May 8 I joined with the team from Camberwell Salvation Army for the launch of The 300 Project. Over the course of a day, 300 youth from the Boroondara area came together to work in their community on a range of tasks – including cleaning graffiti from our streets, performing tree planting and revegetation in areas of need.
