Boroondara Citizen, Young Citizen and Volunteer of the Year Awards 2012

Boroondara Council is calling for nominations for the 2012 Boroondara Citizen, Young Citizen and Volunteer of the Year Awards. Nominations close on 18 November 2011 and the awards will be announced at the Australia Day Citizenship Ceremony in Boroondara on 26 January 2012. Click here for more details.

Xavier College Burke Hall Year 6

On November 18, Josh visited the Year 6 level students at Xavier College Burke Hall. He spoke to the students about his experiences in the parliament and the role of government. Josh is pictured here addressing Year 6 students.

Visiting one of Kooyong’s Treasures

On November 14, Josh visited the Carmelite Monastery, Kew. With its beautiful gardens and chapel the Monastery is one of Kooyong’s treasures. Josh is pictured here with the resident nuns and the visiting Father Criostoir MacDonald, Dean of the Cathederal of County Cork, Ireland.

Remembrance Day at Camberwell RSL

On November 11, Josh attended the Camberwell RSL Sub Branch Remembrance Day service held in Surrey Gardens, Surrey Hills. Josh is pictured here with guests including Boroondara Mayor Nicholas Tragas, Camberwell RSL Treasurer Blayne Bayliss, Camberwell RSL Secretary John Daly, Member for Burwood Graham Watt, Camberwell RSL Publicity Officer Brian Watt, Camberwell RSL President John Frewen, Camberwell RSL Social Secretary Betty Butcher and Boroondara Councillor Dick Menting.

Our Holy Redeemer Primary School Speech Competition

On November 9, Josh attended the finals of Our Holy Redeemer Primary School's speech competition.  Each year level was represented by two or more finalists speaking on a range of topics, including their favourite holiday, why people shouldn't eat junk food and other topics of interest to them. The quality of each speech was quite remarkable. Josh is pictured here with principal Jason Geraghty, adjudicator Tony Kuc and the finalists.

High Resolves Initiative Summit

On November 9, Josh a guest speaker at the Higher Resolves Initiative Summit held at the University of Melbourne. Higher Resolves is a leadership program that helps high school students to develop direction, capability and confidence.  Josh is pictured here with the co-founder of Higher Resolves, Mehrdad Baghai, and some student participants.

A Victory for People Power - Balwyn PO to reopen

It’s a great relief to the people of Balwyn that the post office will be re-opened in time for Christmas. A big thanks goes to the residents and traders for keeping the pressure on Australia Post. Josh is pictured here with the Hon. Robert Clark, Cr. Tragas and Cr. Menting, Ian Bird of the Balwyn Traders Association, Balwyn Newsagency staff member David Phillips and co-owner Symone Shannon.

Getting Lawn Bowls Back on the ABC

Josh is putting his strong support behind a local campaign to ‘Get lawn bowls back on the ABC’.  The campaign which is being led by the Hon Bronwyn Bishop MP, Shadow Minister for Seniors, and Kelly O’Dwyer MP, federal member for Higgins and a director of Bowls Australia, was launched with a nationwide petition by Joe Aarons OAM, chairman of Bowls Australia. United Nations International Year of Volunteers 10th Anniversary Awards

This year is the tenth anniversary of the United Nations International Year of Volunteers (IYV+10). Josh is calling for nominations for exceptional volunteers to be recognised as part of this year’s celebrations. Nominees must live in Kooyong and nominations close on 31 October 2011.
